About This Game Copoka is an open-world exploratory indie game about a bird building its nest in a totalitarian city state. But on the other hand, it's cheap, and It's fine for what it is - a fairly simple game where you fly around collecting things. The things you can "collect" are presented fairly early and finding them is fairly straight forward. I wouldn't call it the best short game I've played, but it's good enough, cheap enough, and short enough, that if you're bothering to read reviews for it, just go ahead and buy the game.. Very nice short game. Plays similar to a walking sim style, with the story simply told passively as you explore the environment. Exploring the story also grants you the required collectibles to progress forwards.Nice art style, and design of the environment matches well with the story. The story itself is interesting, as you follow an oppressed people, but you can't influence it in any way. Good soundtrack. Game had some (minor) framerate & shadow issues.. CRAZYWORLDWELIVINGSIMULATOR. Beautiful game don't get me wrong but my god is the flying disorienting or unresponsive at times. Tried to flying to the nest and it wouldn't let me. I couldn't latch on. Took me about 25 minutes to pass through that.. Let me just say, first off, that I've only been playing a few minutes, but felt like I HAD to write a review right away. This game works great as a portfolio piece or a proof of concept. Worth the price, but could be so much more. I've wanted a game like this since I was a kid watching my dad play Wings of Glory. All those flight sims, and no one ever bothered to make a bird game?! I jumped on this game the instant I saw it. It's almost exactly what I wanted as a kid: a relatively large, lovingly crafted (seriously, maybe I was projecting, but really felt like you could tell the developers put some heart into this) world full of small details for you to explore as a fricken bird! The soothing music, and the addition of human dialogue that you can overhear as you fly close- and specifically setting it in a USSR-like world, are all great touches.But, while this works as a great starting point, it still has a lot missing, and a lot that needs to be tweeked. Number one: the controls and the flight, overall, need to be improved. It really doens't work with a keyboard, which is a shame. It would be nice to be able to move using WASD, strafe with Q and E, and then look around with the mouse instead of the arrow keys. Maybe even using right and left clicks for accelerating and breaking instead of Shift and CTRL. Or, at least giving us the option to change the control settings as we prefer. Once I got a controller plugged in it was better, but still didn't feel as natural as one would WANT flying as a bird to feel. I feel more natural flying around as a druid in World of Warcraft than in this game. I may have to mess with sensitivity and see if that improves things. However, there are also clipping issues that need to be resolved that really take you out of it. Most often when walking on the ground I found myself suddenly unable to move forward for no apparent reason. I would love to see a game LIKE this, but with more to it, as well. While this game seems like an interesting sort of narrative form, an actual bird GAME would be fun. In Copoka, you fly around looking for feathers, which make you faster, and for shiny things to decorate your nest - which leads you near humans so you can overhear their conversations about the oppressive regime they live under, etc. Then you return to your nest to drop off the shiny object, and off you go again. That's plenty for this particular game, and this price point, but I hope the developers will aim for more on their next project. Needing to eat/drink, having other birds around, maybe threats to avoid (not necessary, but could be fun), find a mate, build a nest, etc like an actual bird sim game.. Not work game... :(. It's nice that there are games out there that don't involve death, guns, sex, the undead, gore, etc. I first got this game as part of a Humble Monthly collection, but just realized today that it had been released on steam when it appeared in my unused steam codes in my Humble library. There's not a whole lot to them game. It could be aptly called a "bird simulator," but there are a few things to do - feathers to collect that increase your speed, a few trinkets to collect and a few conversations to listen in on. The art style is cute. The soundtrack is really beautiful. The flying is relaxing if a bit wonky sometimes. At $5 it's a good deal, I think.. Walking simulator by a bird perspective. Stunning visuals. Great artistic direction. Ending is a bit meh.
